Here are 2020 St. Paul area Veterans Day events, including free food and entertainment for service members

A list of east-metro memorials and celebrations in recognition of Veterans Day on Wednesday, Nov. 11:


Veterans Park, North St. Paul: Veterans Park is holding its annual Veterans Day Commemoration at 11 a.m. Attendees are encouraged to gather at 10:45 a.m. Social distancing and masking requirements will be in place. The program will be led by members of the North St. Paul Veterans Park committee, representatives from the North St. Paul VFW Post 1350, and American Legion Post 39 and will feature a 3-volley salute, flag detail and the playing of taps. After the program, North St. Paul American Legion Post 39 is offering veterans a free SOS lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. North St. Paul American Legion Post 39, 2678 E. 7th Ave.

State Capitol, St. Paul: The 173rd Airborne Brigade Association Chapter 15, Special Forces Chapter XX, and Mid-West All Airborne Alliance will be holding a program at the St. Paul Lower Mall near the Vietnam War Memorial Wall at 11 a.m. Attendees are required to wear a mask and stay six feet away from anyone they do not live with.

Stillwater Veterans Memorial, Stillwater: 16th annual Veterans Day Ceremony beginning at 11:30 a.m. The ceremony will feature patriotic music and two essay readings. The event follows the annual downtown Stillwater salute to veterans at 11 a.m. Stillwater Veterans Memorial, 138 Pine St. W.

Washington County Historic Courthouse, Stillwater:  After the Veterans Day Ceremony more activities are available across the street from the Washington County Historic Courthouse. After the program, attendees can tour the building and view “Thanking a Veteran” letters written by Stonebridge Elementary School students. These letters will remain on display at the courthouse through November. Washington County Historic Courthouse, 101 Pine St. W.

Veterans Service Building, St. Paul: The fourth annual Veterans Day Walk sponsored by World War II Veteran George Hunkins through downtown St. Paul will depart at 1 p.m. from the Veteran Service Building. Participants are encouraged to bring a flag to carry. Veteran Service Building, West 12th Street.

Forest Lake: The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4210 and American Legion Post 225 are hosting a Veterans Day ceremony at 6 p.m. at the Forest Lake VFW. The program will include a POW/MIA remembrance ceremony, patriotic singing, prayers, speeches, a rifle salute and the playing of taps. The Roberts Family Life Celebration Home will provide an evening lunch following the ceremony. Masks and social distancing are required. Forest Lake VFW, 556 SW 12th St.

Online: The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs, in accordance with state restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will produce a 30-minute video to honor Minnesota’s veterans. The video will be available on the department’s website: https://mn.gov/mdva


Lake St. Croix Beach: Free chicken dinner pickup for Lower St. Croix Valley Veterans, Service Members and their families. Reservations must be made by Nov. 7. Curbside pickup at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 16770 S. 13th St.


Chili’s: Wednesday, Nov. 11, free meal for veterans and active-duty military at all locations. East-metro locations include Maplewood, Roseville and Woodbury.

Dunkin’: Wednesday, Nov. 11, free doughnut for veterans and active-duty military. East-metro locations include Maplewood, Roseville, St. Paul, West St. Paul and Woodbury.

Famous Dave’s: Wednesday, Nov. 11, free Georgia Chopped Pork Sandwich and side at all locations for veterans and active-duty military. East-metro locations include Roseville, West St. Paul and Woodbury.

Mason Jar Kitchen: Wednesday, Nov. 11, free breakfast, lunch or dinner entrée from the restaurant’s Honoring Veterans menu. Dine-in only. The restaurant is located at 1565 Cliff Road, Eagan. Make reservations at https://masonjar.kitchen/.

Punch Bowl Social: Wednesday, Nov. 11, one hour of free activities for veterans and active-duty military. Activities include bowling, ping pong, billiards, darts and arcade games. Open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Located in Minneapolis.

Starbucks: Wednesday, Nov. 11, free tall (12-ounce) hot brewed coffee for veterans, active-duty military and military spouses. Multiple locations throughout the east metro. More info from Starbucks.

White Castle: Wednesday, Nov. 11, free Combo Meal or Breakfast Combo Meal at all locations for veterans and active-duty military. East-metro locations include Inver Grove Heights and St. Paul.
