Man rescued from Mississippi River in St. Paul

5July 2021

Rescue crews Monday morning freed a man trapped in the Mississippi River, near the Wabasha Street Bridge.

Multiple reports around 2:45 a.m. sent officers to the river where they found the man in the water with his foot trapped under a log. St. Paul Fire Medics and the Ramsey County Water Patrol Unit removed his foot from under the log and got him out of the water around Raspberry Island, according to police officials.

The man told medics that he had been talking with a woman and that she may have been in the water with him. He was unable to give medics details about the woman, and he later told them he was on drugs, police officials said.

Medics took the man to Regions Hospital for an evaluation. His current condition is unknown.

Water Patrol did not locate anyone else in the water.
