Minnesota Orchestra Young People’s Concert connects with animals at Minnesota Zoo

Tigers and bears and violins. Oh, my.

Minnesota Zoo animals will be in the spotlight for a special free Minnesota Orchestra Young People’s Concert at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12.

“Musical Menagerie” will look at the connections between music and animals in a one-hour concert students and families can watch live on TPT2 and online at minnesotaorchestra.org. Conducted by Sarah Hicks, the program will feature a variety of composers and styles of music (Perkinson, Ravel, Rimsky-Korsakov, Vivaldi and Grace Williams) interspersed with filmed pieces featuring experts from the Minnesota Zoo who will introduce young people to bees, bears, tigers, gibbons, birds and aquatic creatures, according to an orchestra news release.

The concert will be available for streaming on demand at minnesotaorchestra.org after the live broadcast.

The orchestra has been performing Young People’s Concerts since 1911, according to an orchestra news release. This is the first one that will be televised.
