Hidden Passage IPA from Saint Paul Brewing
I have some really, really good news for my fellow east metro craft beer lovers: Saint Paul Brewing has been taken over by the folks that run Can Can Wonderland. First and foremost, they built out the sprawling patio, ringed on three sides by the remains of a building that was there when it was originally the Hamm’s Brewing site. This amazing space is now more of an art park with tables and chairs, but it’s also incredibly functional and smart, given the pandemic. Tables are all contained in their own little diorama, each with a theme. We sat at the margarita hut, which has a little roof and a surfboard that functions as a table. There are wood-fired pizzas, made in an oven on the back of a sunny yellow pickup truck, and beer that comes to your table, too. No need to go inside at all! And the beer is good! We sampled a large swath of the menu, but since fall is when I’m craving IPAs, this bitter, fruity West Coast version really spoke to me. If you like beer and patios at all, and if you want to spend an afternoon or evening in awe of your surroundings, I can’t recommend this place highly enough. Get there before word gets out, because I guarantee it’s going to be packed once it catches on.
