Twins call up first-round picks Alex Kirilloff, Nick Gordon

23April 2021

The Twins have called first-round draft picks Alex Kirilloff and Nick Gordon from the alternate training site in St. Paul, the team announced Friday morning.

The team also purchased the contract of infielder Tzu-Wei Lin.

Catcher Tomas Telis and infielder Travis Blankenhorn, called up from the taxi squad this week, were returned to the alternate training site at CHS Field.

Kirilloff, the Twins’ top pick in the 2016 amateur draft, is the team’s second-ranked prospect. He’s hitless in three at-bats this season as the 27th man for a April 14 double-header against Boston.

Gordon, the fifth overall pick in the 2014 draft, is making his first trip to the major leagues. In his last full season, he split 2019 between Class AA Chattanooga and Class AAA Rochester, hitting .298 with 29 doubles, three triples and four homers in 70 triple-A games.
